He didn't search at all. We all know that, they all know that, but they're going to "agree" he was "searching" to allow him to save whatever little face he has.
I was going to put Bucky in this scene, but it's already crowded enough. He's probably drunk under a table at the tavern (since even the undead are no match for Angel when it comes to alcohol).
