I vaguely remember her curse making her more catlike when she does evil deeds?
I may have to reread the story to remember correctly.

No, if she thinks she 'deserves' to be more cat-like because of how she perceives her actions then her curse makes her more cat-like. Shaft himself even stated that the curse isn't affected by whether she does good or evil, just her own perceptions, and that he expected her to pay someone to dispel the curse a loooooooooooooooooooooooooong time ago.
