This will actually tie in pretty tightly with some future plot points, but let's cover the basics: magic, apparently, doesn't exist any more. This makes a certain about of sense if you think about it since, for this universe to be our universe (something the Castlevania series has usually implied), then at a certain point science has to take over and we have to not have magic any more.

I mean, we don't have magic now, that we know of, so magic has to fade away at some point.

However, our immortal characters would seem to prove that point otherwise. I mean, they are immortal due to magical needs.

It's not that magic would've disappeared per se, but as humans culturally advanced, they would've started to rely more on facts than superstitions. Eventually people will have forgotten about magic in general even if it still exists. Think of the Mayans. They had some really advanced mathematical concepts down, but they were lost when their empire collapsed. Only to be reinvented thousands of years later in a different region of the world. Imagine the same thing with magic.

When evil spreads across the land, and darkness rises and the monsters roam. When the creatures of the night make beautiful music, and the things that go bump in the night go bump with greater enthusiasm. When the world is in peril and is in need of a hero...

These guys are, sadly, the best the world can hope for. These are the adventures of the heroes of CVRPG. They mean well, they try hard, and occasionally they do the impossible...

They actually do something heroic.
