Alec's innocence is a source of humor for the other characters, meaning he's great for punchlines. Being able to torture him, play off his natural innocence and muck about with his head... sure, it's kinda evil, but then, just a little, so are the various characters.
Of course, really, just about everyone likes to muck about with their friends, give them a hard time once in a while. It's the way of most relationships.
