Katrina was never a great student. Her bouts of uncontrollable magic created problems for all that tried to teach her spells. Shaft was her last teacher and when she failed spectacularly, he cursed her and went back about his business. She never forgot that hard lesson and vowed one day to exact her revenge.
And in the Mirror Universe she carried out that plan. She was the master of magic and Shaft was her unwilling puppet. He was cast about, his soul rent from his body, and his essence cursed for all eternity. Because that's how you pay back a grudge.
