When thinking of RPGs, people will invariably either think of Dungeons and Dragons or Final Fantasy. Both are applicable to CVRPG.
Final Fantasy is a series of games where-in a party of heroes is hastily thrown together (sometimes by the events unfolding around them, and other times because two guys with swords meet each other on the street and figure "what the hell, let's team up!") all so that they can defeat the big, apocalyptic-style fate that awaits their world(s). Lives are changed, fates are sealed, worlds are saved, and millions of games are sold.
Dungeons and Dragons is a series of table-top games (whose instructions are in over-priced books) where-in the player creates some idealized version of themselves, teams up with other people who have done the same, and all gather around a table with soda and cheetos. Hopefully, after a good play session, sometimes more than a single battle has been accomplished, and maybe they've finally left the town. Maybe.
As I said, in CVRPG both are applicable. The heroes are loveable losers who just so happen to be the only ones capable of stopping whatever apocalypse is on the agenda this week.

When evil spreads across the land, and darkness rises and the monsters roam. When the creatures of the night make beautiful music, and the things that go bump in the night go bump with greater enthusiasm. When the world is in peril and is in need of a hero...

These guys are, sadly, the best the world can hope for. These are the adventures of the heroes of CVRPG. They mean well, they try hard, and occasionally they do the impossible...

They actually do something heroic.
