#400: And Here She Is

I can't remember where I picked up "kiss" from. I want to say from some shitty vampire-romance. I tend to read a lot of vampire books, which all, alomst always, degenerate into romance series by the third or fourth book. Coincidentally, that's also the point where I stop reading those books and move on to the next series. I get that vampires are all dangerous and sexy, but when you have compelling characters, without having them fuck, they don't need to fuck. That's not character development. That's Mary Sue fantasies. *shakes head*

Anyway, kiss. I don't know that it's the "scientific" term for it, but I do know it's the commonly accepted term online. Coven is witches, kiss is vampires. I'd assume pack is for werewolves, as that just makes sense.

And, of course, strip #400 was another big milestone for the comic, so of course I had to half-ass it and do some weird Supplemental comic to celebrate. You can read it, and all kind of other funny and random comics, over in the Supplementals Archive.

You'd be amazed how many sci-fi series do the same thing as they progress. After establishing that the characters are awesome and great it seems most authors can't resist the temptation to have the series either go romance or 'book opera' (think a novelized version of a soap opera, complete with all of the who-fucked-who drama that doesn't have anything to do with the series origins). The only time I see a series avoid that is when it is either meant exclusively for the young adult crowd (in which case it wouldn't be young adult anymore) or when they cycle through characters on a fairly steady basis (as then the author has to establish why the new characters are awesome and great and doesn't get the time to have them fucked or fucked with).

When evil spreads across the land, and darkness rises and the monsters roam. When the creatures of the night make beautiful music, and the things that go bump in the night go bump with greater enthusiasm. When the world is in peril and is in need of a hero...

These guys are, sadly, the best the world can hope for. These are the adventures of the heroes of CVRPG. They mean well, they try hard, and occasionally they do the impossible...

They actually do something heroic.
