This is actually how it works in the CV series, especially the later, RPG-based entries. When you get "stoned" (heh) in the games, if you are then hit by an enemy, you become unstoned, but you also take increased damage.
All of that is reflected here, as Katrina's normally piddly attacks do a serious amount of damage to Alec, but he's also freed.
No I hadn't planned this when I had Alec get stoned, but it made sense, so I ran with it.
