If you look at D&D as a source, then yes, Golems can be made of anything. Ceramic is the classical material, but just about any substance can be used, so long as it can be formed into the shape of a man (or beast). This will, eventually, play a role. I'm not gonna say now what exactly that means. You'll just have to read on.
