Darkmoon is basically externalizing my own through process, which is that I'm supposed to try and keep things upbeat, find a way to always end on an amusing little joke and laugh everything off. But this is a darker storyline, full as as much drama as I'm capable of (which is a bit, but not a ton).
In a sense, I'm feeding into the same tropes as a lot of other comics do when they go for the "dark story / drama shift". Drama gets readers, and a long, dramatic arc is viewed as "mature" and "a sign that the comic is growing". I don't know about all that, though. CVRPG isn't really "mature", not as long as I can have a zombie fart once in a while before combat. That helps to deflate the tension (drum riff).

When evil spreads across the land, and darkness rises and the monsters roam. When the creatures of the night make beautiful music, and the things that go bump in the night go bump with greater enthusiasm. When the world is in peril and is in need of a hero...

These guys are, sadly, the best the world can hope for. These are the adventures of the heroes of CVRPG. They mean well, they try hard, and occasionally they do the impossible...

They actually do something heroic.
