#1228: Girl Talk

I'm a dude (my name is Mike, so I figured that was a given, but I'll state it anyway). I can write about dudes from a dude perspective. That comes easy enough. However, watching most media, what is abundantly clear is that there aren't enough strong females in most shows, comic, or what have you.

It's part of the reason I always try to make sure I keep an even number of men and women in this comic. Many of the villains are female, and while the male heroes outnumber the female ones three-to-two (with a genderless sixth member) that just because of which character were in the original RPG that started this whole mess.

But that's part of the reason why I try to make sure that the most useful, most ass-kicking members of the part are the girls. I want them to be integral to the story, and not just love interests. Sure, relationships form, but Katrina is more than that girl that Darkmoon pursues. Princess is more than just a foil for Alec. The girls run the group and can fight, and talk, and magic just as well as the men (and usually better).

Honestly, I don't know why you even care. Write the characters that the story needs.

Because I'm a dude, so if I don't force myself to think about stuff like this, I may never pay attention. I'm not exactly going out of my way to force all-fem interactions into the story, but I at least keep an eye out for it when I can make it happen.

Fair enough. But when I write, I write what the story tells me. Hell, half the time. I don't even know which characters have said what until I read it.

When evil spreads across the land, and darkness rises and the monsters roam. When the creatures of the night make beautiful music, and the things that go bump in the night go bump with greater enthusiasm. When the world is in peril and is in need of a hero...

These guys are, sadly, the best the world can hope for. These are the adventures of the heroes of CVRPG. They mean well, they try hard, and occasionally they do the impossible...

They actually do something heroic.
