The rules of comics and cartoons: while we can tell the difference between people because they are wearing different colored clothes (and we're in on the joke that everyone wears the same outfits over and over again), characters within the world are unable to do this. This is why evil clones can so easily pass as the good duplicates even when they wear different outfits (or have a goatee).
When evil spreads across the land, and darkness rises and the monsters roam. When the creatures of the night make beautiful music, and the things that go bump in the night go bump with greater enthusiasm. When the world is in peril and is in need of a hero...
