Well, two things: One, they can't read, so its doubtful they'd be able to get into much trouble with the spellbooks that are in her lab. Link is the only one capable, and I credit him with not being dumb enough to do something stupid like that.
Two: Even if they do manage to melt themselves and then cease to exist, they're going it in a protected lab, so there would be no blowback across town. That's a silver lining at least.
