Remember, for the longest time Alec kept getting mistaken for a girl (when he wasn't being mistaken for Link).
I liked the idea that Medusa had never really learned any of their names. They show up, they fight, the heroes move on. Why would names be important?
For that matter, though, how does Medusa keep coming back from the dead? I don't know that gorgons are supposed to have that power, but the Castlevania games keep bringing her back again and again.
