I'll talk about who is in the cockpit in a bit, but I'm sure anyone that's read the comics for the last couple of issues can figure out who it is (no, it's not Alec or Princess, sorry).
I originally didn't intend to give the shuttle crafts guns, but I needed them for the joke, so on they go. Simple solution, really.
