Is it that Darkmoon can't remember, or just that he doesn't give a shit? After 800 years, you'd figure they'd all be past caring like the rest of us mortals do.
Well, maybe Katrina is still fairly mortal. Sure, she's 800+ now, but she has to recharge her longevity on the regular. It's not that same as for Golem and D who just live forever now.

Bunny let's Darkmoon captain the ship because he finds adventure, follows fun, and doesn't try to interfere with any other aspects of actually flying or caring for the ship. Bunny's the quartermaster, enginseer, helmsman, and whatever else I don't know of. . . So for pretty obvious reasons, snarky needling aside.

Darkmoon can also communicate. That's generally considered a good quality for a captain.
