I dunno if most lists would have Genghis Khan at the number one spot, but I find the Mongols fascinating, and Genghis was their best leader.

Hannibal would likely top a number of lists. I could have also listed Patton and most people probably wouldn't have argued. Oddly, I found at least one list that had Hitler among the ranks of greatest commanders. He wasn't a good commander, though -- he had smart (albeit morally terrible) people working for him, but even still they were more lucky than good. And, as World War II (thankfully) proved in the long run, luck only gets you so far.

Even if the Khan isn't first, he is. the Mongols are always the exception. Also Rommel and WWII was too big for luck to play any major factor at any period. WWII Germany had a messy, incredibly competitive command structure; too many projects to fund properly; a distinct lack of key resources; and inefficient production and logistics, which had severe consequences when the extensive pre-war preparations didn't result in the short, crushing victory they needed. The German command structure was mostly fixed, but too late to do anything but prolong the Reich's demise. Most of this I learned from youtube channels like Military Theories visualized and Bismarck. The Reich was damned near destined to lose after it didn't immediately win.

When evil spreads across the land, and darkness rises and the monsters roam. When the creatures of the night make beautiful music, and the things that go bump in the night go bump with greater enthusiasm. When the world is in peril and is in need of a hero...

These guys are, sadly, the best the world can hope for. These are the adventures of the heroes of CVRPG. They mean well, they try hard, and occasionally they do the impossible...

They actually do something heroic.
