This also makes sense when you put it into the context of what we know of Evil Katrina's plan. Of course, the heroes have no clue what he plan is or what's really going on, so they have to sound it out for a while as we snicker at them from behind our hands. This is the problem with knowing more of the plot than our characters -- we know it, but they don't, so they have to stumble through the mystery blindly, and thus it's perfectly natural for the characters to have conversations just trying to figure out what the fuck is going on.
