#3535: Meeting Up

This Comic's Storylines:

I read a series of books way back, the Anita Blake series. They're awful, like really bad verging-on-romance awful (and, now that I think about it I may have talked about them before in these commentaries), but they did have a few interesting ideas in the early novels that I liked (which is why I read a few of them until the awfulness of them got to be too bad). Vampire having not just the normal set of powers and weaknesses but their one specific powers that they develop over time was something I really liked. It's part of why the vampires in my comic often exhibit different powers and abilities -- not only does it look cool but it also makes a certain amount of sense to me.

I came to a similar line of thinking without that mental trauma. A lot of my concepts of vampirism come from Legacy of Kain. Kain's Lieutenants (His "undead sons") were said to take after their "father", with him evolving first and the others following some time after. They didn't start diverging until Raziel "surpassed" Kain by developing wings. That was mostly likely the first divergence, since his fellow "sons" had later developed in different ways. (Immunity to water, spider features, enhanced telekinesis, and so on) which then also manifested in those that they had turned. Plus there was evidence of this again in Blood Omen 2 where some of the bosses were vampires with their own unique abilities. In an unfinished personal concept, I have it so that vampires start with all the weaknesses and progress down the same ability "tree" as their Sires until they hit a certain stage, then they can chose to allocate points to counteract a weakness or enhance a strength or a new ability.

When evil spreads across the land, and darkness rises and the monsters roam. When the creatures of the night make beautiful music, and the things that go bump in the night go bump with greater enthusiasm. When the world is in peril and is in need of a hero...

These guys are, sadly, the best the world can hope for. These are the adventures of the heroes of CVRPG. They mean well, they try hard, and occasionally they do the impossible...

They actually do something heroic.
