This one goes out to all of you that have played through (read: suffered through) the Lords of Shadow games with all their interminable Quick Time Events. QTEs suck, in general. I hate it when they show up in cut-scenes, as if the game makers don't trust you to pay attention during a cut-scene so they put in QTEs to keep you on your toes (which I generally miss because a cut-scene is meant to be watched). I also hate them in battle because here they're so often used to have the heroes to spectacular things the programmers couldn't design into the normal play style of the game. "Want to see the hero leap up into the sky, perform a spin attack, behead a villain, and then ground stomp their corpse? Well, push B at the right moment when we tell you. Oh, you want to be able to do it yourself? Hahahahah! That's cute."

Quick-Time Events need to die.

I think the balance to strike is to just add it so the timing is just a bonus. That way, it only bothers completionists. It can add that little bit of spice to a finishing move for a cutscene, especially when the movesets lack a showy enough finisher. I think Pirate Warriors 1 did that right. Scoring bonus for nailing the QTE so you could land the same finishing moves as were used in the show. But again.. that's not a perfect solution for every game. I'd either make it a setting to ignore them or just add them as a bonus score.

When evil spreads across the land, and darkness rises and the monsters roam. When the creatures of the night make beautiful music, and the things that go bump in the night go bump with greater enthusiasm. When the world is in peril and is in need of a hero...

These guys are, sadly, the best the world can hope for. These are the adventures of the heroes of CVRPG. They mean well, they try hard, and occasionally they do the impossible...

They actually do something heroic.
