This Comic's Storylines:

Jennifer is the atheist. I swear I'm not the one calling religion pathetic. I mean, really, I obviously don't have that view of religion -- I made made self the god of this comic.

Wait, come to think of it, that's not much better...

Alec's analogy does make sense. The bible is the source of his religion, which is the source of his power. Spell books (and therefore cantrips) power Jennifer's magic. The two would be on the same level as far as their casters are concerned.
